Kenneth H. 'Mac' Mageary, 84, of Monmouth Beach, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 22, 2009. He was born, November 16, 1924 in Lynn, Massachusetts, where he spent his childhood as 'lucky 13', of a very large family. Mac served his country honorably in the Army during World War II. He joined the Army in 1943 and served two years in Europe. Upon his return in 1946, Mac was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ, where he met the love of his life, Arleen Hennessey. Arleen and Mac were married in 1949 and lived in Long Branch before moving to Monmouth Beach in 1977. He worked at Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook, and later worked at Wenning and Sons Wholesale Foods, Long Branch. Lovingly known by many as Uncle Mac, he touched the lives of family and friends. He was known, and will be remembered, as quick-witted, personable, generous and full of love. In addition to family, he treasured close relationships with his neighbors in the Sands Point South Community, Monmouth Beach. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 53 years Arleen Hennessey Mageary, in 2002, his parents, William and Mary Stella Babineau, and seven brothers and four sisters; Surviving is a brother and sister-in-law, John and Noreen Mageary, MA; a brother-in-law, Bud Wenning; nieces and nephews, Jan, Drew, Michael & Jane, Peg & John, Dennis & Connie, Dan & Vanessa, Brian, K.C., Scott, Louis, Matthew, Victoria, John, Mason and Layna; and abundance of nieces and nephews in New England. Visitation will be Tuesday 5 to 8 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street at Broadway, Long Branch. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home.
