Michael Peter Mazza

June 2, 1995 - February 22, 2016

Michael Peter Mazza, 20 of Oakhurst, died suddenly in his dorm room while relaxing with his friends on Monday afternoon. Michael was born in Long Branch and was lifelong resident of Oakhurst. He was a Parishioner of Holy Trinity RC Church, Long Branch. He was a 2013 graduate of Ocean Township High School, where he played four years of football, three years of Indoor track and for four years was involved in Student Athletic Training. Michael went on to Mount Ida College, where he was a Junior, majoring in Criminal Justice. He was an offensive lineman and the long snapper for the Mount Ida Football team. Michael was an avid New York Yankee's , Boston Bruins and New England Patriots fan. He loved to spend free time fishing in the Shrewsbury River. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Donald P. Mazza in 2009, Robert W. Greene, Jr. in 2006 and Joseph Aretino in 2015. Michael is survived by his loving parents, Dara and Donald Mazza; his beloved sister, Michelle Mazza; his great grandmother, Filomena Aretino; his grandmothers, Jacqueline Mazza and Lillian Aretino; his Aunts and Uncles, Jay and Caryn Aretino, Chad and Jennifer Aretino and Diane and Ron Kirk; his cousins, Troy, Alexis, Olivia and Spencer Aretino, Fred Lazzati, Laura and Charlie Widdis and Jimmy and Katy Kirk; Michael's girlfriend Elena Macrelli; He is also survived by his Mount Ida College family, who have been a wonderful support to Dara, Don and Michelle; and his cat Tigger. Visitation Sunday, February 28th, 1-5 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 29th, 10 am at Holy Trinity RC Church, Long Branch. Words cannot express our deepest sympathy for you. Andrew would like to be here, but he cannot make it from Athens, GA where he now lives. I will never forget Mike's encouragement & support for Andrew. Especially when he rallied the other players to support A when he was on the field. He was such a special young man. Sadness and grief fill this page as I recall all the years and assistance Mike gave our club at the annual Christmas Tree Fund Raiser Sale at Monmouth Mall. A giant, mature well before his years and humble and loveable in his entirety. We will never forget you, Mike and all the wnderful things you brought to the people you touched. So sorry we will not get to say goodbye in person, on Sunday 2/28 as I am carrying for my wife Barbara who just had some serious abdomen surgery. GOD REST YOUR LOVELY SOLE. My deepest sympathies to all of you. I didn't know Mike but my daughter is a student at Mount Ida. She said she never had a chance to meet him either, but the entire campus has been different since he passed. We've heard great stories about Mike and about the great person he was. It seems as though he touched many lives. As a parent I can't imagine your pain. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you find some peace in all the memories you have of Mike. Your children were loved more than most and its heartbreaking when a family like yours suffers a loss of this multitude.
