Allen Kenneth McKean, 73 of Eatontown, died Thursday, Dec. 3rd at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Allen was born in Long Branch and lived in Oakhurst before moving to Eatontown 49 years ago. He was a Heavy equipment operator for Jersey Central Power and Light. Allen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst. Allen was a social member of the Oakhurst Fire Department. He was a longtime member of the Michael Thorne Race Committee, West Long Branch and a member of the Jersey Shore Running Club, where he volunteered for Shore area races. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants. Allen graduated from Asbury High School and was a member of the Hall of Fame Committee. Allen enjoyed many days at the Ocean Grove beaches and watching his daughter's athletic events. Surviving is his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Ann McKean; two daughters, Peggy Ann McKean, Tinton Falls and Theresa Marie McKean, Tinton Falls; his sister and brother -in-law, Lois and Jack Tralka; and his Godchild, Brian Griffitts. Visitation Tues. Dec. 8th, 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral services, Wed. Dec. 9th, 11 am at the funeral home. Interment Woodbine Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Oakhurst Fire Co., 72 Larkin Place, Oakhurst, NJ 07755. As an avid runner, I would always meet up with Al at races because he was always there volunteering. There is a reason why his email address was Althevolunteer. Runners are so thankful for that because without volunteers there would be no races. Over the years Al and I had many amazing times together volunteering at the NJ Marathon. After one marathon, we hand loaded traffic cones on a truck at Sandy Hook and then drove to the Garden State Parkway Service area behind Holmdel H.S to unload them only to find that they had shifted and the door to the truck could not be opened. We had to get a fork lift truck to wedge open the door. As 'Double D' said - what can you say about a guy who wasn't a runner and gave so much to the running community. Thanks Al for being there for us and for your friendship.

I always enjoyed talking to Al at the many running races he was a volunteer. He had a smile on his face and proud of his community services. The entire running community thanks Al for his many years helping out. Even when he had difficulty walking he still wanted to go to the races and help out. My condolences to his family.
