I don't know where to start...My deepest sympathies to Greg and all the family. Too many losses recently, I hurt for you so much! Walt ("Mr. Metzger" back then) was a big part of my childhood, as was Jeff and Greg. I have so many memories, all of them great. I must have spent half of my childhood at Jeff and Greg's house. I remember shooting hoops with Walt and throwing a football or baseball around, always having something to eat over there. I remember feeling that Walt was a big teddy bear, with a gruff exterior but deep down he was a "softie". Certainly, we gave him reason to be annoyed with us many times I'm sure, but I don't remember him yelling at us. He had a way of letting us know if we crossed a line. RIP Walt, and comfort and blessings to your family.

Thank you Walter, for being a ray of sunshine at Holmdel UCC. You, and your big welcome kisses and hugs, will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy from the Venancio family. My memories are sitting at Colts Neck field & chatting with Walter during many baseball games he went to . We were both watching one of his grandson & I had one playing too! We had talk too about him teaching one or more of my children years ago! Some funny stories. Such a lovely man & he will be missed by all. So sorry to all for their loss. Rip Walter ?Lucille Venancio

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Walt Metzger, a faithful parishioner in the Holmdel Community church. We first knew Walt as a hard wiorker when our sons were in scouts together. And later as we all aged, we shared many work parties with him at the church. Walt was always the last one left in the kitchen washing out the big coffee urns, and taking out the trash. He will be sorely missed by all those knew him. And we will miss his smiling face as we walk back up the aisle at the end of the service.

My brother, Walter was a great guy. In fact, when I was a little girl and he was in his teens, he was so cute, I had a crush on him.. and I thought he was so handsome in his military uniform. I feel very blessed to have had a him for my brother. I will miss all the fun family times we had.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

What a sad day. I am so sorry for your family's loss and our church's loss. I will miss Walter's smile and hug and two step. We joked that though we were from different political parties, we always liked and respected one another. I will miss him.
Michael DeSimone left a message on September 3, 2020:
Walter was a good friend and colleague at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Old Bridge, NJ. Like so many others, I enjoyed his friendship. He always shared a great sense of humor, whether it was sitting in the teacher's room, playing cards or enjoying a lunch with friends. I am going to miss him. May he rest in peace and greet his lovely wife and son in heaven.
