Robert F. Reddington, Sr. of Holmdel and Long Branch passed peacefully on November 27, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A descendant of the Reddington clan from Inishmicatreer, a small Island in Louth Corrib, County Galway, Ireland. Robert was born in Jersey City, February 20th, 1938. He matriculated from Regis High School in NYC, and went on to graduate from St. Peter’s College in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. His career began as an Actuary with a large insurance company and later at AT&T and Actuarial Science Associates. Bob was a fellow in The Conference of Consulting Actuaries; a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Associate of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, as well as, a member of several international actuarial organizations.

Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren and he loved sports. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. Bob was known for his generosity, quick-wit, and was happiest when helping others.

Bob’s greatest love was his wife of over 61 years, Rosemarie. Whether it was spending time in Ireland or cruising the world, they were always together. Bob and Rose loved each other more on their last day than on their wedding day. Our world is a better place for those whose paths he crossed.

Bob is survived by his beloved Rosemarie, his children Michael (Anne), Mary, Robert (Christine), Deirdri (Maya), Patrick (Dawn), his brother Raymond (Nora), his 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Robin.

Visitation: Thursday, December 3rd from 4pm to 8pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, December 4th at 10:30am announced at the Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. To Rosemarie, and family. We extend our sincere sympathy to you on the sad passing of Bob, we only became aware of his passing recently. We have many happy memories of you both on your visits to Ireland, and Bob was a true gentleman. Hope that you are all keeping well, as you approach Bob's First Anniversary. Deepest condolences to Rosemarie and all the Reddington family on your great loss. We met Bob and Rosemarie several times in Rinnaknock and in Knock and New Jersey. He was always so interested in people and so aware of his Irish background.May he rest in peace.

Bob connected people. If Bob liked you--and there weren't many people he didn't like--he wanted you to meet his other friends. Bob and Dick Kuhn and I were all 14-year old freshmen together at Regis High School. I was in a different first-year section from Bob and Dick, who were classmates, but Bob made sure I got to know Dick. In the 1970s, when I took a job in Palo Alto, Bob alerted Dick, then a resident of Marin County, to my pending arrival. In the tradition of the Reddingtons, Dick and Nancy Kuhn adopted me until Peggy and the kids were able to join me. Whenever Bob traveled to San Francisco to testify for AT&T at rate hearings, he would arrange to meet us for dinner. If I came to the NY/NJ area on business, Bob and Rose would invite me to their home to break bread with other Regis alums. Bob outdid himself when, in 2002, he learned that I'd be in Dublin over a weekend. I was reminded of the wonderful evening he orchestrated when I saw the remembrance on this site from Peter and Moira Fullam, who live just outside Dublin in Naas. No surprise--any friend of Bob's was a friend of Peter's. A car collected me at my hotel, and Peter and Moira folded me into a dinner party with several of their friends. Bob connected people, and I always thought, in pre-cellphone days, that his working for AT&T was part of a divine plan that allowed him to make long, frequent calls to his circle around the globe. He filled us in on his doings and on each other's; he kept us close. I will miss him very much. Mike Murray

Bob was my best friend at Regis and he did an amazing job of keeping in touch over the years, usually in one hour phone calls that were funny and replete with exact details of events many of which occurred decades ago. Amazing. Nancy and I last saw Bob and Rose in 2016 which was great and we hoped to see them again next year for the 5 year Regis reunion but now Bob will be there in spirit. I will miss the phone calls, his humor and an extraordinary human being who was inspirational and I feel blessed to have known him. Dearest Rosemarie and Family, we are so sorry and sad for you. We have had the privilege to know you for almost forty years since Bob and I met through our work with AT&T in Ireland and the UK , work developed into a firm friendship which has brought great happiness and richness to me and my family. We shared many wonderful times together in Ireland UK and the USA and enjoyed sharing our homes, families and friends together. We had a memorable evening in the famous Leith’s restaurant in London where you, Rose, and my sister Maria caused wonderment and chaos by ordering and eating all the desserts on their famous desert trolley whilst Bob and I wondered could we leave without paying. You were so generous to us when we visited in New Jersey and we love coming down to Holmdel and to Long Branch. My children remember Bob fondly , particularly his style of wit, his command of language and his sharp observations of the human condition - we loved his play with words and logic - and they enjoyed your visits here in Naas where he entertained and challenged us all. My deepest sympathy to the Reddington family on the passing of such a great man and an icon in such a great family. I had heard about Mr. Reddington on many occasions before I met him. First from my daughter Jennifer about how kind he was and to her, Robbie Reddington and their daughter Scarlet Rose Reddington. I’d also heard him mentioned fondly many times many times by Robert Reddington and his wife Christine. They all spoke volumes of his kindness and his spirit. I only met Mr. Reddington in person once, but that one time left such profound impression on me that it will last my lifetime. My family and I were guests at his house and enjoyed an afternoon full of great stories, laughter, dancing and fun by the pool. He and his lovely wife made us feel very welcome, as if we had known each other for years. We engaged in great conversation and quickly discovered that we spent part of our youth in the same place, decades apart. Elmhurst, Queens. I can count on one hand the people that I’ve met that made such an impression on me that I will remember them forever. He is one of them. I will never forget his kindness, his happiness or his spirit. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain. Remembering his wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace!

Condolences to Rose and the family. Bob along with others interviewed me in 1979 for an actuarial position at AT&T. We worked together for the next twenty years and have been very good friends for forty years. Bob, despite his health issues, kept in touch with us on a regular basis after his retirement. Bob had a wicked wit and an endless store of stories (some a little risqué) to keep us amused. I will remember him for his mischievous smile and the merry twinkle in his eyes and above all his friendship.

We were so sad to have heard of Bob's passing. So many good memories over the years, Bob was great for staying in touch with all the family, even though we are in Ireland he stayed on top of all our news and always showed a great interest and was so supportive. I have wonderful memories of meeting Bob in Dublin when he used to come for business trips many years ago when I was in college, he used to take me out to dinner and was so generous and kind, traits that he exhibited throughout his life. With each passing generation, he was there, getting to know each new member of the family with enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed. We were so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. You are all in our thoughts at this time. Bob & Rosemarie came to visit us in Ireland about 7 years ago. Family ties were always important to Bob and he would stay touch no matter the distance. It is with much sadness we heard of Bob's passing. We have so many good memories of Bob and Rosemarie. Bob has been a part of our lives for 63 years and we will miss him very much. My much loved sister Rosemarie, we send prayers to help you along the way during this time.

My condolences to Rosemary, to Deirdri and their other children and grandchildren. I met Bob at AT&T in 1984, when I joined his team. Bob was a raconteur, with many stories and a twinkle as he told them. His wit and kindness will be missed.

Bob hired me in 1977 at AT&T. When he did so, he changed the trajectory of my life and my career as well as the lives of the more than 600 people who ultimately were members of the ASA (Actuarial Sciences Associates) family. Not only did he name that company, but he also helped lead it through meteoric growth. He became a trusted advisor and he taught many the critically important value of relationships. He always focused on the good in people, but he also wittingly taught lessons when needed. I will miss you, Bob. I have faith, however, that we shall meet again in a more glorious setting. One last memory...more than anything in this world, Bob loved his Rose. She will always be his shining light. That is my most salient recollection of this great man. Madeline and I wish the entire Reddington clan our deepest sympathies. We will always cherish our connection to your wonderful family.

Rose, I’m so sorry you lost Bob. He and I after a Rocky start, got along very well. I enjoyed working with him on the board and will miss talking to him around the pool.

I worked with Bob for over 15 years. They surely don't make many men with the character the likes of Bob Reddington. And Rosemarie, you brought out the best in him. I will always remember when he offered my family to stay at your house in Ireland...what a memorable time. And his generosity extended to magnanimity of spirit as well. He was loyal to the people he worked with, never held a grudge and always looked for the best in people. He loved to hold court and always had a captive audience with his wonderful ability to tell a tale with great (sometimes questionable) humor and never taking himself too seriously. He was a man larger than life and he will surely be missed. May his memory be for a blessing.
