I feel so lucky to have known my Uncle Abe. I remember that I always got excited when he was making a trip north. Even in my youth I truly enjoyed spending time with him (adults) during his visit. During these visits over the years as I listened to his stories and watched his actions, I realized what a good hearted person he was. I watched how he took care of and treated his mother, his sister, his wife and at this young age, I decided that I would use him as a role model by taking care of my mother in the same fashion. I also was amazed at how happy Uncle Abe always seemed and the wonderful smile that he wore so naturally. When he welcomed a person with his peppy, vibrant voice and followed it up with an energetic hand shake, any person would feel completely embraced- I know I did. Uncle Abe, I have always loved you, looked up to you, and I will miss you though your ways, your smile, and your voice I will always remember and think of often. Glen Hewey

My sincere condolences to Abe’s family. I met Abe when I started at Bell Labs and worked with him on an early project including traveling to meetings in Chicago. We were friends for many years after that and enjoyed lots email contact over the last few years — including discussing the successes of our children. Rest In Peace, my friend.

I worked with Abe at AT&T Bell Labs for several years, and reported to him for a portion of that time. He was my role model in so many respects, inspiring me as an engineer and a person, and always encouraging myself and others to grow but without feelings of obligation. He brought joy to the workplace, with his delightful and offbeat humor (“Murky Hill” was his description of the Bell Labs pure research facility in Murray Hill), his storytelling, and his lunchtime strawberry shortcake festivals. His interests and expertise went well beyond the technical, and we often discussed country music and the Hudson School of painting. I am eternally grateful for the comfort he provided me during a difficult period in my life. I will miss him greatly. God bless you, Abe. May you rest in peace.

My family was blessed to have such wonderful and thoughtful neighbors over the last 4 decades. Abe always kept himself available to help my parents, and would always make an effort to say hello and see how everyone was doing. He always kept the lines straight on his grass cutting, and that was hard to keep up with as a teenager until we all hired the same lawn service to maintain the property. We thank him for his service to our country, and being such a solid human being. God Bless!

I never knew Abe, but I am lucky to work with one of his sons. What a great life story - embodying service, aspiration, strength in relationships, giving back and loyalty. Truly inspiring. Rest in Peace and prayers to you all. Peter
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I am very sorry to hear of Abe’s passing. When I started my career at AT&T Bell Labs, Abe was my manager for over 7 years and taught me what it meant to be an engineer. After his retirement, he became a friend and we often communicated on math topics. RIP, my friend.
