Janice L. Campbell, 78, of Lincroft, passed away Saturday night surrounded by her family.
Janice was born and raised in Plattsburgh, NY, she graduated from Marymount College with a degree in History, and went on to further her studies by receiving a Masters in American History from Rutgers University. She began her career working at the Oak Knoll School in Summit, NJ and moved to Bridgewater High School then finally to Monroe High School where she stayed for 25 years before retiring. Her love of history allowed her to be a successful contestant on Jeopardy! and her passion for the show continued throughout her lifetime.
Janice would meet the love of her life, Richard, in Piscataway and the two immediately began dating, and in 1969 they would marry and move to Middletown to raise their young family. Janice was an avid golfer and was a member of the Jumping Brook Lady’s Club. She enjoyed yoga, playing the piano (for which she resumed lessons at the age of 70), and skiing, which became a family passion. She was also a voracious reader and inspired her children (and grandchildren) to be the same. She loved to travel–she and her husband were able to travel the world, making it to 35 countries and almost every continent.
Janice was an active parishioner of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church and volunteered often, for diverse causes such as Meals on Wheels, JCC (Juvenile Conference Committee), Reading Buddies, and RCIA. In addition to her love of volunteering, she especially treasured her time with her grandchildren.
Janice is predeceased by her parents Francis and Ines LaGoy and her brother Jerry LaGoy.
Janice is survived by her loving husband Richard Campbell; her children, Scott Campbell and his wife Sarah of Bethlehem, PA, Allison Wrede and her husband David of Lincroft, and Laura Lang and her husband Michael of Fanwood; her brother and sister Steven LaGoy and Mary Ellen Rielly; her beloved grandchildren Andrew, Will, Kate, Luke, Lily, Nate and JT; and her dog Abby.
Visitation will be Sunday December 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Monday, December 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A Mass will be offered Tuesday, December 28th at 10:15 AM at St. Leo The Great R.C. Church, 50 Hurleys Lane, Lincroft.
