Michael J. Donohoe, 55 a lifelong resident of West Long Branch, died at Monmouth Medical Center on Saturday, March 2nd.

Mike was an avid sports fan and spent several years coaching Shore Regional High School boys’ soccer with his brother, Robert Donohoe, where they went on to win several state championships. Outside of coaching Mike was a fan of local professional teams, the Devils, Yankees, and Jets (some teams winning often, others… not so much), but more so than the teams themselves, Mike loved watching their games with family and friends. In addition to his love for sports, Mike was a music and film enthusiast. He wrote and filmed a holiday themed movie starring members of his family, which continues to be rewatched by family annually. Mike’s favorite part about films and music was discussing them with family and friends, particularly during Oscar parties hosted by Aunt Pat and Uncle Rob. He leaves behind his influence on family and friends’ music and film tastes, with everyone having plenty of songs, artists, and films that will always bring back fond memories of him. Mike enjoyed traveling, visiting many places throughout the United States as well as Ireland, Italy, France, and Scotland. Mike loved to gather with friends for bar trivia as well. His trivia team, the Isotopes, went on to compete in several national trivia competitions, placing in the top 10 multiple times. He turned his love of trivia into a revered family Christmas tradition by writing and hosting a family trivia contest at the family’s annual Christmas Eve party each year.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Jane and Michael Donohoe.

Surviving is his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Amy Donohoe, Oceanport; his uncle, Anthony Donohoe; his aunts and uncle, Carmela Locicero and Maureen and Michael Altenau; his niece and nephews, Jack, Jimmy, and Caroline.

Friends are invited to attend a gathering on Friday, March 8th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. In lieu of customary remembrances contributions in Mike’s honor may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, www.monmouthcountyspca.org.
