Evelyn Ford, 93, of Matawan, died on Tuesday, February 3.
Evelyn was born in Orange, NJ to the late Rose and Joseph Rojy. She was a graduate of West Side High School class of 1950 in Newark, NJ. After high school, Evelyn began working, and attended secretary school. She worked in Real Estate for Coldwell Banker, as a secretary and teacher’s aid at Edison Jr. and WestfieldHigh Schools, and as a secretary for Fidelity Union Trust Company.
Evelyn was a creative soul who enjoyed crafts, crocheting, sewing bags and pocketbooks. Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family. She shared God’s word everywhere she went.
She is predeceased by her parents, and her granddaughter, Heather.
Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband George T. Ford, Jr., their children Dr. David and his wife Kerry Ford of South Carolina, Darren and his wife Janet Ford of Ohio, Darlene and her husband Andrew Kiss of Holmdel, her brother Thomas and his wife Janet Rojy of Hillside, seven grandchildren Ryan (Breanna), Russell (Brittany),Rachel (Steven), Daniel, Tyler (Camille), Trevor, and Heidi, seven great-grandchildren William, Myles, Eden, Sigurd, Shiloh, Viktor, and Luther, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10 from 4pm – 7pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Funeral Home Service will be offered on Wednesday, February 11 from 10am. Burial will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
In lieu of traditional remembrances, Evelyn’s family asks with gratitude that donations in her memory be made to the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Foundation (www.sjsupport.org).

Vinny and I were heartbroken to hear about Evvie’s passing but knowing she’s with Jesus and Heather makes us smile. We’ve been blessed to have known her for 35 years. As you mourn the loss of daily contact with your wonderful, beloved Wife/Mother/Grandmother, we pray that the Lord’s presence in your lives will sustain you, along with the precious memories He brings to mind, the love you share, and the knowledge that this is only a temporary separation when you trust in the Lord Jesus who has given us the hope of eternity together with Him.
We have been remembering so many things about Evie (as we knew her). How when we first began to know her at Calvary, she was already such an example of devotion to the Lord and love to her family. We remember how devastated she was when Heather went early to be with the Lord, yet how she leant into His strength to be a support and comfort and encouragement to you. I remember stories she told me of other tough times before we knew them, for example when her dear husband George suffered some persecution for his faith and commitment to the Lord. It was clear that she had been a stalwart encourager and supporter to him. She loved her children and grandchildren so much. I remember so many times when there were events/activities for children and Evie was foremost of the supporting cheerleaders. She glowed with pride whenever she talked about you all. And I agree, you are a wonderful living legacy and tribute to the example and nurture of your parents.
Evie was also an encourager to the women in our church fellowship, often providing words of wisdom and advice. I recall her prayers and encouragement while my sons served overseas in the military. I remember fondly times when she invited a group of us women over to share some sweet Hallmark movies together, followed of course by a bounty of snacks. She had a generous smile and a laugh that warmed my heart.
When George went through his battle with cancer, I remember how loving and caring she was, doing whatever she could to lighten his load. Both she and George have been wonderful role models for the rest of us.
A more recent memory I have is when she came to visit Calvary and brought for me a lovely blessing bag that she had made herself. That was so like her—generous and thoughtful to the core. We will surely miss her.
