Ray, you were like a brother to me for many years, a lot of my core memories from being a teenager, and in my early twenties were spent with you, and Leo, and I wouldn't change a thing about it. We spent nearly everyday together getting into all sorts of trouble and adventures and it was a privilege to be as close with you as we were. I'll never forget all of our inside jokes and sayings, or all the shows and games we watched and played together. I will never stop thinking about you. To Ray's wonderful family, I am so sorry for your loss, and I would like to thank all of you for raising Ray to be such a great man, and to thank you for treating me like one of your own all those years that Ray and I spent together as friends, I really felt like I was loved and a part of your family. You guys have always been so kind to me and I'll never forget that. Rest in Peace Ray.

Dear Ray and Michelle, I wish there were some magic words to bring you peace at this moment. And yet, if the magic were to let you forget RJ, I know you would not accept it. The gift of RJ was his life and love. It was too soon lost, yet infinitely better than never having had him. I wish you and all who loved him peace and,in the fullness of time, to be able to smile when you think of him. I hope you can feel the love around you. Please know that I add my love to it. Bonnie

I am so very sorry for the tragic loss of Ray Jr. I will always remember meeting RJ as a young boy when his father brought him to court one day. I asked RJ if he wanted to be a lawyer like his dad, and he answered emphatically, “No!” I remember smiling at how certain he was, even at such a young age. He clearly knew who he was and what he wanted in life. It was such a sweet and memorable moment. Please know that you are all in my thoughts during this unimaginable time. My deepest condolences.

Ray, thank you so much for your kindness and our close friendship. You were such a special part of my childhood and you got me through so much during that difficult time period in my life. You truly were the first best friend I ever had. Although we lost touch I would still frequently look back on our friendship fondly. I’ll never forget your Bilbo Baggins impressions and us laughing ourselves silly at Gandalf’s battle with Saruman, no matter how many times we watched it. And always making sure the subtitles were on for me whenever we watched movies and played video games. I am so grateful to have known you, and all the times you would walk me home when it got late at night and giving me a hug goodbye. I will never forget the impact you made on my life or the way your smile lit up a room. I will treasure our smiles and laughter together and I will always cherish those hugs and late night walks. I’ll miss you dearly.

Ria Ruane left a message on March 3, 2026:
Oh Beautiful Michelle and Shebell Family, My heart hurts for you. You have been on my heart and in my prayers from the moment I learned of this tragedy. As I put my head on the pillow in prayer, it occurred to me, buried from a conversation we had many years ago,  I remembered your Bible verse.  I know it is near to and dear to your heart.  I also know there is nothing in this world like a mother’s love for her son. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 How special that he was described as a gentle, kind and curious "old" soul? Dear Michelle, I witnessed your faithful and loving planting of seeds of faith and love in your children. Those seeds are the foundation that never left RJ & remain with him still. This is the greatest gift you could have given your son, the faith and belief in everlasting life. The seed was planted, and the grace was received from the sacraments with the understanding that RJ’s soul is immortal.  Your faithfulness in raising him up in the way of the Lord is a gift that God cherishes and honors. These early lessons of love and sacrifice on your part, as a loving mother, led him Safely Home to his loving Father.  “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor have entered into the human heart, The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 God is the perfect father. He loves RJ even more than you do, which is incomprehensible but true. For Gods ways are higher than our ways. They are above our human understanding and are perfect, even when we cannot make sense of them.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 He loves you too and every one of your precious children. The promise that he will not depart, means that nothing, not even death can separate RJ from the love of God that you first  taught him. I watched you raise your children up in the way of the Lord. It is time to entrust him back to God‘s care.I am sorry for you because I know that your heart is broken. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18.  Our Blessed Mother suffered this anguish also. I hope Our Lady of Sorrows is with you now and during the difficult days that follow. “Mary knows what a breaking heart feels like. She stood beneath the Cross with tears on her face, yet love kept her standing. When your own soul feels pierced, she is the Mother who does not step away. She stays. She listens. She comforts.Mother of Sorrows, stay close to this family's wounds. Lead each of them to your Son  who heals.” May God bless you and those you love and keep you filled with the lessons that you taught. May you and your family stay close to the Father who loves you, Jesus who heals and died to open the gates of heaven for RJ and all who were raised in the light of the Lord and the Holy Spirit, who brings wisdom and comfort to those who mourn. May the Blessed Mother, model for  all mothers, help you to recover and heal.  I love you and I am here for you. My prayer is that you remain steady and faithful during this season of pain. My children and I promise to keep you, RJ and your precious family in our hearts and in our prayers. May the Light of Jesus be with you, provide warm & light to console you and fill your heart with hope and peace. With love, Ria Ruane
