Gary Lewis Edwards, formerly of Oceanport, passed away at Little River, South Carolina, on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the age of 71. Gary was born March 14, 1943 to Doris Chasey Edwards and C. Edmond Edwards of Long Branch where he grew up with his younger brother Wayne. He graduated from Long Branch High School in 1961 where he excelled in track and field and cross country running. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College in 1965 and was a member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. After graduation, Gary returned home to work for Atlantic Semiconductor as a purchasing agent and would later transition to the family electrical contracting business, Edwards Electric, in Long Branch founded in 1906 by his grandfather W. Stanley Edwards and later owned by his father C. Edmond Edwards. Gary later became the owner of Edwards Electric in 1980 until he retired in 2012. He retired to North Carolina. Gary is a past president and served as Secretary of the Rotary Club of Long Branch and was a recipient of the club’s Paul Harris Fellow Award. Gary is predeceased by his parents, C. Edmond and Doris Chasey Edwards. Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Phyllis Cariddo Edwards; daughter Christy Edwards, daughter Michelle Edwards Severini, son-in-law Paul Severini, beloved grandchildren Cristian and Sarah Severini, brother Wayne Edwards, and nieces, Megan and Chelsea Edwards. Gary enjoyed volunteering for the community especially with the Rotary Club, painting, music, spending time with his family and friends whether human or feline. He will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor and compassion for those in need. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Sun. Jan. 18, 2-5 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral services, Mon. Jan. 19th: 11 am at the funeral home.
