Gloria V. Burke 89, of Holmdel passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, NY Gloria was a longtime resident of Holmdel Township where she worked as a receptionist in town hall. She was the President of the P.T.A., member of the Kiwanis Club, and volunteered at Bayshore Community Hospital and Bayshore Health Care Center. Mrs. Burke was a parishioner of St. Benedict R.C. Church as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She was predeceased by her husband Francis X. Burke in 1998. Surviving are her children Peter, Stephen, Vincent, Gerard, Anne, and Thomas Burke, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday 10:00AM at St. Benedict R.C. Church 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel. Interment will be in the Holmdel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Burke's name to Bayshore Health Care Center 715 North Beers Street, Holmdel, NJ 07733

I belately found out about Gloria's passing when I went to Bayshore for my monthly visit, and she was not there. My condolences to her family. Gloria and Frank were dedicated members of our Pax Christi group for many years, working for justice and peace. Gloria also went to Haiti with me on a mission to our sister parish three times, and the people there still ask for her. Later in the 90's she and Ann Sonatore and I had weekly dinners at the Red Oak for many years, calling ourselves the widow's club. These are good memories. I will miss her

So sorry to learn of Gloria's passing. I knew her very briefly as her room was across the hall from my mom's at Bayshore Healthcare. She was always a delight and armed with a funny story or two. I will miss seeing her scoot up and down the halls with her walker. RIP Gloria.
