Joanne E. (Brooksbank) Gambale entered into eternal peace on February 1, 2026, at Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Born in Jersey City, she lived in the Cliffwood Beach area before moving to Ocean County, where she settled in Holiday City, Silverton.
Joanne received her elementary and secondary education at St. Joseph’s Grammar School in Keyport and St. Mary’s High School in South Amboy. She also attended the Katherine Gibbs School of Business. Joanne served as parish secretary at St. Gabriel’s Church in Marlboro, where her coworkers became cherished friends.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, George A. and Harriet C. (Weber) Brooksbank, and by her son, Kevin C. Costa. She is survived by her son, Jason G. Costa of Newark, Delaware, along with his wife, Jennifer, and her son, Jack, of Brick. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Wallace, and brother-in-law, Richard Wallace of Brick; her godson and nephew, Bryan Wallace of Seaside Heights; and her niece, Erin K. Hudson and her husband, Justin, of Robbinsville, along with their children, Max and Avery.
Joanne was an avid Disney fan, reader, and traveler, and will be remembered for her faith, generosity, and love of animals.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6 from 9am – 10am at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am at St. Gabriel Historic Church, Marlboro. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanne’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), the North Shore Animal League (www.animalleague.org), or the ASPCA (www.aspca.org).
