John Nicholas Caruso, known affectionately as Johnny, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, in Somerset, New Jersey, at the age of 76. Born on August 15, 1947, in New York City to Joseph Caruso and Josephine Russo, John’s life was marked by passion, devotion, and resilience.
In his youth, John thrived on adventure, from racing his beloved car, The Fugitive, on New York streets and in car racing tournaments, to achieving bowling perfection with a perfect 300 score. A skilled billiards player, he embraced life with vigor until he settled down with Karen Caruso, his loving wife. Transitioning from his adventurous past, John pursued a career in accounting, working at ABS before establishing two of his own ventures.
John’s greatest joys came from his family. He and Karen embraced parenthood with open hearts, adopting two daughters, Brielle and Nicole, from South Korea. Their daughters became the center of their world, filling their lives with love and pride.
Known for his unwavering kindness and integrity, John was a man whose actions spoke louder than words. Despite facing challenges in his later years due to Ataxia, a neurological disorder, John’s gentle nature endeared him to all at Parker Somerset Nursing Home, where he spent his final years.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Caruso, their daughter Brielle Caruso, son-in-law Keith Witek, and grandson Gabriel Witek. His daughter Nicole Caruso preceded him in death in December 2011. He is also survived by his younger brother Albert Caruso, sister-in-law Linda Caruso, and their son Joseph Caruso. Their daughter Kristine, who passed away in May 2023, joins John in eternal rest.
To honor John’s memory, family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Holmdel Funeral Home from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm. A mass in his honor will be held at St. Catherine’s in Holmdel on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:30am, followed by entombment at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery & Mausoleum in Colonia at 12:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the National Ataxia Foundation, a cause close to John’s heart, at https://www.ataxia.org/donate/.
John Nicholas Caruso will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and the enduring love he shared with his family. May he rest in peace.
