Leon C. Imperato of Monmouth Beach, died on January 18th in Shrewsbury 3 months shy of his 100th birthday.
He was born in New York City, raised in Jersey City and was a graduate of Dickinson High School. Leon served honorably in the United States Army during WW II. Leon settled for many years in Holmdel before moving to Monmouth Beach.
Leon was a fan of all genres of music, especially Frank Sinatra. He was affectionately known as “Crazy Legs” Leo by his family. He traveled extensively to Europe and within the US taking many family driving vacations to visit historic sites, such as Civil War Battlefields. Being with his family was very important to Leon and he cherished the times they were all together.
He had a successful career at Foster-Wheeler Corporation as an Estimator, retiring after many years with the company. Leon enjoyed watching the sport of boxing and was an avid reader of history books.
Leon was pre-deceased by his wife, Lydia Radiola Imperato; his sister Gertrude Holly; his son-in-law, George Durar.
Surviving are his four daughters, Carol Clark, West Long Branch, Nancy Durar, Atco, Linda Bry, Oceanport and Diane Ruffino, Rumson; his six grandchildren, Lauren Clark, Allison Tippin, Brian Durar, Scott Bry, Michelle Bry and Lydia Ruffino; four great-grandchildren, Dante, Priscilla, Granger and Kayleigh.
Visitation Thursday, January 22nd, 4 to 8 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Funeral services, Friday, January 23rd, 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
