Louis Napoletano, 63, of Long Branch, passed away on Tuesday September 13th with his family by his side at the Monmouth Medical Center. Lou was born and raised in Perth Amboy graduating from Perth Amboy High School. Lou settled in Long Branch after graduating from Monmouth College. He started his career with the Long Branch Police Department in 1976 and faithfully served the department in every rank through 2003 receiving many awards and accommodations. Following his retirement as the Public Safety Director for Long Branch, he became Director of Security at Monmouth Medical Center. Lou was currently an investigator with the Monmouth County Department of Consumer Affairs. Lou was past President of Amerigo Vespucci Society and currently served as Consigliore of the Vespucci Society. In 2000, Amerigo Vespucci honored Lou as Man of the Year. He was a past commodore at Long Branch Ice Boat & Yacht Club, and a member of IAMA, where he served as Treasurer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 335, KOC McFaul Assembly 4th degree, and a member of Long Branch BPOE Elks #742. Lou was also honored in 1999 by the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce with the distinguished Louis J. Libutti Award. Lou was a man who loved his family, his community, his friends and his fellow Police Officers. His great pride and joy was being a grandfather to Brian and Christopher, or as his close friends would know them, “Rocky†and “Rosco.†Lou was known for his quick wit and humor. He loved fishing, boating, hunting, and a good cigar. Lou was pre-deceased by his parents Hedwig and Louis Napoletano. Surviving is his loving wife, Susan; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Katie & Michael Wachter of Howell and Laura & Timothy Stroebel of West Long Branch; his sister & brother-in-law Kathy & Cliff Salvemini of Bangor, PA; his loving godson, Patrick Martin; and his two grandsons Brian & Christopher. He also leaves behind many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends. Visitation will be on Thursday September 15th from 5:00-9:00 pm and Friday September 16th 5:00-9:00 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday September 17th at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s R.C. Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. Burial Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. My dear friend Lou and I shared many days together, most on the water, in the outdoors, or with family at countless events. He loved the outdoors and telling stories, which he did often- many times while enjoying a fine cigar. Our shared passion for the outdoors, mutual family values and similar up bringing brought us together. He always looked forward to "opening day", be it trout at Hockhockson, Yellow Brook or Manasquan, pheasants at Assumpink, or deer in Millstone and Howell. The seasons were planned around fishing and hunting with trout in the spring, then bass, weakfish and sharking, followed by fluke and crabbing in the summer and then back to trout, salmon and hunting in the fall. The rest of the time was spent either reminiscing about past fishing or hunting trips or planning our next adventure. He always looked to fish the tournaments and although we rarely placed, we always enjoyed a memorable time. Our outdoor exploits together were many and always included the company of family and friends, as witnesses perhaps, as many stories did tend to become legend over time. He always was there when help was needed. He and his actions as a man defined words such as loyalty, respect, friendship, family. He made us laugh, always made time for others and loved his family. I am lucky to have known him as a friend and being welcomed as family. May we remember him with fond memories and celebrate his life and all the heartfelt gifts he has given to us all
