Michael V. Murphy, 79 of Lincroft died at his home on Thursday, February 23rd.
He was a longtime resident of Holmdel, before moving to Lincroft 3 years ago. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mike served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Following his discharge he began a successful career on Wall Street, where he had a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. Mike was part of the Exchange safety team, that triaged many of his co-workers on September 11th.
Family was everything to Mike, it didn’t matter which holiday, birthday or just an occasion to be together, they were his happiest of days. He loved having a good cup of coffee, enjoyed a few Coors Lights with a little Jameson. Mike was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the UConn Women’s Basketball Team. He loved being with his friends, that enjoyed many fishing trips to the Hampton’s, and their 25th hour club. An avid reader he read every James Patterson novel available, he enjoyed the music of The Beach Boys and the Eagles. He was an active volunteer and fund raiser for the Joan Dancy and Pals Charity raising monies to help patients and their families with ALS, the disease that his beloved wife Kathleen died from. Mike enjoyed his Irish heritage, St. Patrick’s Day, corned beef and cabbage along with a Reuben all year long.
Mike was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen Flynn Murphy in 2009 and his brother Dick Murphy in 2010.
