Mortimer M. Williams, 83, of Colts Neck, died Wednesday, March 20th at his home surrounded
by his loving family.
Mortimer was born in Staten Island, NY. He graduated from high school in 1959, and served
proudly the U.S. Coast Guard joining in 1963. He moved to Holmdel in 1991 and then settled in
Colts Neck in 1992. He was an insurance agent and broker for The Heil Agency from 1965 to
1986 and later was president and owner of his own business-Richmond County Appraisal
Service.
Mortimer was always seeking the next adventure. He enjoyed scuba diving, skydiving,
skiing.hunting, mountain climbing, camping, hiking and traveling. He ran the NYC Marathon in
1979, and traveled extensively including to Antarctica and observed the penguins. He climbed
Mt. Washington upwards of 8 times, and was the 1975 Staten Island Small Bore shooting
champion and a proud member of the Richmond Boro Gun Club. He was fond of Ferraris and
was an avid Formula 1 enthusiast and traveled to attend the races. He could frequently be found
listening to WOR Radio with John Gambling. He was an avid animal lover; especially cats, as he
had 13 cats and would feed over 40 deer a day in his backyard.
Mortimer is survived by his loving partner of 38 years, Sandra Ellis; his daughters Cynthia Flood
and her husband Robert of Colts Neck, and Laura Zink and her husband Scott of Utah, and their
mother Linda Williams of Staten Island; his son Roger Ellis of Colts Neck; his grandchildren
Amy and Liam Flood, Ryan and Justin Zink, and Amber, Hunter and Hayden Ellis. His sister
Gail Megenity of Pueblo Colorado and cousins in both Florida and Ohio. He will be sincerely
missed by all who were privileged to know him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23rd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Holmdel Funeral Home,
26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A prayer service will be offered Sunday, March 24th at 10am at
