Today, we bid a solemn, heartfelt farewell to Oscar Borreo, a beloved presence in both family and community. On March 16th, 2024, surrounded by the embrace of his loved ones, Oscar embarked on his final journey. He spent his last day engaging in the simple joys he cherished – fishing, playing tennis and enjoying a meal with those dearest to him.
Born in Infanta, Quezon, Philippines on March 18, 1947, the third born of seven siblings, Oscar’s life epitomized unwavering dedication and boundless love. He pursued education with fervor, earning a B.A. in Accounting and Liberal Arts from the University of the East, Manila, where he met his soulmate, Ruby. Their union in 1968 marked the beginning of a profound love story, blessed with three children: Raymond, Dovie, and Jason. Together, Oscar and Ruby embarked on a journey that led them to the United States, where they nurtured their family and cultivated a legacy of love.
Oscar’s spirit knew no bounds. For over four decades he worked in the private and public sectors as a certified public accountant in both the Philippines and in Manhattan, New York. Yet, beyond the confines of his office, Oscar was the bedrock of his family, renowned for his unwavering resolve, humor, and zest for life. His home radiated warmth and laughter, where he delighted in hosting many gatherings and engaging in spirited games of chess. Oscar found solace in the simple pleasures – fishing, tennis, chess, and the excitement of the casino. Indeed, his final day was a testament to his essence, spent immersed in the activities he cherished, surrounded by those he loved.
As we mourn Oscar’s passing, let us celebrate his enduring legacy of love and cherished memories. He leaves behind a loving family – Raymond (Tonette), Dovie (Steven), and Jason – along with his adored grandchildren Dean, Luke, and Bodhi. Oscar is now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved wife, Ruby, his parents, brothers, and sisters.
A Memorial Gathering in honor of Oscar will take place on Saturday, March 23, from 10 am to 12 pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. Ennichment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, a cause dear to Oscar’s heart.
