Paulette Suzanne (Sue) Dillon passed away on November 11, 2025. She was 89.
Paulette Suzanne Cloos was born on October 10, 1936, in Schenectady, NY, and grew up there. She never saw a good reason why she could not do anything her brothers could do, a conviction that served her well throughout her life. She earned a BS in Biology from SUNY Albany in 1958 and married James Dillon, Jr. that same year. She raised her four children, primarily in Round Lake, near Saratoga Springs, NY, where she was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader, an usher for the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a Village Trustee, and the President of the Round Lake Library Association. She moved to New Jersey in 1990 and, in 1991, earned a BSRN. She worked in nursing for eight years, retiring from the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey.
Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and sister. She loved baking all kinds of Christmas cookies, collecting Nativity sets, and maintaining an always-growing Christmas village. She loved bridge, playing in multiple groups after she retired, and is also fondly remembered for playing endless board games with her young grandchildren. An avid gardener, she was always in search of the best tomato. She enjoyed travel, including family trips to Cape Cod and, later in life, visits to and from her grandchildren, summer trips to Saratoga, cruises, and outings to the casinos. Sue also loved watching football, although she was known to root for whoever was on offense. She was always well-informed and attuned to current events, which she loved to energetically discuss with her oldest grandson.
She is survived by her daughters Meg (Brian) Cooper, Sally Dillon, and Judy (John) Dueker, grandchildren Daniel Cooper, Paul Cooper, Rebecca Cooper, Jennifer (Eric Wade) Dueker, and Julia Dueker, and great-grandson Grant Wade. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Dillon Jr., her son James D. Dillon III, her grandson Jack Dueker, and her brothers Edward Cloos and Timothy Cloos.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Michael’s Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, December 6, at 10:30 am at St. Michael’s RC Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. Burial to follow in Woodbine Cemetery.
