Medical Doctor Dr. Richard Benjamin Commentucci passed away suddenly on Monday, September 5, 2011 at his home in Colts Neck where he resided for 31 years. He was seventy-one years old. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he has practiced medicine for over thirty-five years primarily in Atlantic Highlands, the community he loved. He is survived by his wife Amy, of thirty-five years, his daughters Lisa and Rita, and his three grandsons, Mark, age five, Vincent, age two, and Michael, ten months. He was a loving father and adoring grandfather. We are devastated by this loss. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Church of Saint Catherine, 130 Bray Avenue, Middletown NJ. The Funeral Mass will follow immediately at 11:30 a.m. Internment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Red Bank, NJ.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Doc was a cherished part of our lives for 30 years since he first established his practice in Atlantic Highlands. I was shocked and upset to find out about his passing today. If I had know sooner, I certainly would have attended the services. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all his family, friends, and patients.

We have lived next to Dr. Commentucci's office for 25 years. He was the rare doctor who remained true to his oath and bypassed the bureaucracy that has become so common in today's medicine. Many years ago,when my daughter was 2, she fell and hit her face on the sidewalk on a Friday afternoon. Her pediatrician in Holmdel was long closed for the day and I was panicking. Dr. Commentucci told us to bring her in the back door and he treated her immediately even though she wasn't a patient. I don't even think he charged us! This is the type of gentleman he was and we will miss him dearly.

RITA: ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE, IF YOU NEED JUST TO TALK YOU CAN CALL ME ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT. I CARED FOR YOUR DAD ALOT BECAUSE WITHOUT HIM YOU KNOW MR. He was not only a awesome Doctor, but a Prince among Men, and I will always cherish those fond memories when our familes got together. I am sorry that I could not be there on Friday. To Dr. C's Family, We have known the doc for quite some time. He always gave us very personalized care. We enjoyed our discussions re. movies (rbt's job) & also baseball--Mets, naturally. I am grateful for having known the doc and for the care and compassion he exhibited when he learned about my husband's death. Chris was not a fan of many in the medical profession but Dr Commentucci showed him that it is possible to have one who shows his patients respect, concern, and most of all lends an ear. I believe I was Dr. Commentucci's last patient on Saturday before the office closed. We had a good conversation, as always, and shared a laugh or two. He has been my family doctor for 12 years.
