Seymour “Sy” Greenspan, 100, a lifelong resident of Long Branch, died Friday, January 16th at Monmouth Medical Center.
Mr. Greenspan served in WWII and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.
Following his time in the Navy, Sy graduated with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Newark College of Engineering. He went on to a successful career as an electrical engineer at Fort Monmouth in the avionics lab, before retiring. Mr. Greenspan was a lifelong member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, where he served as the President and was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Jewish War Veterans. Sy lived with the thoughts of “Family, God, and Country.”
Always volunteering his time, he served for many years as President of the Long Branch Board of Education and as a council member on the Long Branch City Council.
Sy was pre-deceased by his wife, Helen Miller Greenspan in October of 1993.
Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Jan Greenspan and his daughter, Anise Kaplan and Richard Slavin; his seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Monday, January 19th, 12 noon at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
