benbullen64@gmail.com, Mrs Resnic, she will always be that to me, always made me feel welcome in the family home. I remember my first time in the home, she heard my name and wanted my full name, so I told her "Michael Benjamin", she said "That is a good name, it lierally means Good Son in Yiddish". That stuck with me to this day. Though not always successful, I tried to be that. You are loved and you will be missed.

Burt-I was on this site due to loss of a long term friend and saw the obituary for your wife. I extend my deepest condolences. You were kind enough to send a lovely tribute when my beloved husband Joe Schwartz passed in 2023. I thank you for remembering Joe. He was special and I miss him every day. I remember Joe speaking so well of you and your wife and life at Fort Monmouth. I am sorry for the loss of your loving partner. May we all find peace and a hope for another time together. My best to you-Diane Brady Schwartz

Art and I were sorrowed to learn of Shirley’s death. I’ve known and admired her since Junior High School when we first met, and was very favorably impressed by her deep faith. Art worked with Burt and knew Shirley from Fort Monmouth. We’ve said the Mourner’s Kaddish in her sweet memory. Peggy Moran Ballato, LBHS Class of 1955. Pinehurst, NC

While I grew up with the occasional meeting with Shirley and Burt on our summer trips to Long Branch—a churn of NJ relatives—I didn’t really get to know Shirley until around 2018, when Helene (Neuman) Petito was ill. My family, Francine, Norman, Zach and I, converged on Tinton Falls and spent time with them. I really loved Shirley’s energy, and we talked about her book club. I saw them again at a Milecofsky family event back in 2021 or so, and was glad to see them and talk with Shirley for a bit. She struck me as a very vivacious soul: intelligent, friendly, and spirited. I am sorry we didn’t get a chance to spend more time together. May her memory be for a blessing.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I was so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. I have such fond memories of her growing up. Like Fred mentioned, I too remember vividly, the Seders at the old house near the Shul. I remember her asking my mom what Leonard and David would eat! She was such a wonderful and caring individual who, like Burt, was so good to my parents when they were getting on in years. My parents could not have asked for better friends which I will never forget. I'm so sorry I could not be there for this ceremony but our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you Burt, Alan, Fred and the rest of your wonderful family at this most difficult time. All our love...Leonard, David, Lori, Sammi and Carli.

My Heartfelt Condolences Dear Burt, Alan, Amy, Fred and Family, I was heartbroken to hear about Shirley's passing. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. As I reflect on the memories we shared, I can’t help but think back to when you and Shirley were newlyweds, Burt. I fondly remember our visit to New Jersey shortly after Fred was born. We all ventured to the World’s Fair in New York together. I can only imagine the challenges of managing two infants while graciously hosting four overnight guests—it felt like a scene straight out of a reality show, showcasing Shirley’s ambitious spirit and warm hospitality. Burt, I know how incredibly special your partnership with Shirley was. You two created a beautiful life together, and it’s a testament to the love and commitment you shared. At Alan and Amy’s wedding, I sat next to Rabbi and Mrs. Zaitcheck. I’ll never forget when Nell turned to me and said, “Danny, it’s so important to be with someone in life. Don’t be alone.” Her words were intentional and struck a chord, as I was navigating life as a single gay man. Despite my own journey, I have always admired the love between you and Shirley. Life can be a rocky road, and it is surprisingly short.  Witnessing the ups and downs of relationships here in Hollywood makes the authenticity of your bond even more remarkable and authentic. Shirley will be deeply missed—not just as a wife and mother, but as a cherished grandmother and an influential presence in the lives of everyone who knew her. Please keep me posted about any memorial service plans. I would love to honor her memory alongside all of you. Sending you all my love and heartfelt thoughts during this difficult time. Warmly, Danny Resnic 310-592-2720 dan.resnic2@gmail.com
