Wendell Atkins Smith, 93, passed peacefully on April 13th, 2025, surrounded by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren, all holding him in boundless love and gratitude. I had the distinct pleasure of working alongside Wendell for several years at Greenbaum. In fact, it was he who offered me a job after having met at the NJ Builders Convention, and I learned so much from him. Wendell was truly a giant among men, the consummate lawyer and the perfect gentlemen. He was the type of lawyer, and person, others looked up to, as with so many of the other pillars of law at that fine firm he helped to found. He respected his clients to the core, and they respected him. You couldn’t help but respect Wendell. Now, all these many years later I still look back at my time working for and with him among some of my most cherished memories. What a wonderful life he led. My deepest condolences to his entire family and may he rest in eternal peace.

The world lost a giant of a man. Working along side Wendell at the Holmdel Theatre was a transformative experience for so many people. He was a great leader, mentor, philanthropist, and friend. He taught me so much about advocacy and governance; I am a better person because I knew him. Deepest condolences to his beautiful wife and family. I am saddened that I will not be able to offer them in person due to prior immutable commitments.

Dear Kala and the Smith family, Wendell was a man well respected by our teaching staff members and a great influence on the need to support the high standards of our Holmdel educational community. It was always a pleasure to see him in person at basketball games and course at the Duncan Smith Theater. My sincere condolences.

Kayla and family. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad, Wendell. When Paul and I think of Wendell, we see integrity, strength and compassion. We reflect on our many years in Holmdel, with Greg and Duncan sharing a great friendship until his tragic loss. We shared many times with Joan and Wendell with our mutual endeavors for the benefit of Bayshore Community Hospital. Be comforted by the wonderful life he lived and shared with many. Helen and Paul Deocampo
