Known to all as “Bill,†passed away Monday, November 2nd at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. William Feinberg was born in Bayonne to Jack and Bert Feinberg on May 21, 1925. He attended local schools, graduating from Bayonne High School. Bill also graduated from Cornell University and New York University Law School, obtaining a graduate law degree. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1952 and thereafter became Law Secretary to Hon. Sidney Goldmann, presiding Judge of the Appelate Division of the Superior Court. Bill later joined his father’s law firm, Feinberg, Dee & Feinberg in Bayonne, of which his brother, Richard and Vincent Dee were also members. Bill was an active trial attorney and a member of the Hudson County, Monmouth County and New Jersey State Bar Associations. He was appointed by the Supreme Court as Presiding Commissioner in numerous condemnation matters. He was an ardent fisherman and an environmentalist, belonging to the Asbury Park Fishing Club, the American Littoral Society, the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, Clean Ocean Action, Outdoor Writers Association, the International Game Fishing Association and the Windmill alliance. He wrote outdoor and environmental articles which were published in numerous magazines and newspapers. Bill served in the First Army in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II as a combat engineer and thereafter in the Military Police. He participated in the Rhineland Campaign among others and was the recipient of a number of decorations. Bill was divorced from Francine Feinberg with whom he had two sons, Michael and Robert. He remarried Joan McCarthy who had four children, Susan, Justin, Joan and Christopher by a previous marriage. They raised the six children as one family and enjoyed a long and happy marriage, sharing many common interests and traveling extensively together. They had four grandchildren James, Lily, Ian and Tess and his yellow lab, Joe. Bill relied upon Joan for her unfailing support and advice and for her optimistic approach to life. She was even able to persuade him to join the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore! Bill was a member of the Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls. He was the recipient of the “Professionalism†Award of the Hudson County Bar Association and the “Pro Bono†Award of the New Jersey Legal Services. He declined a nomination to the Superior Court, preferring to remain with his Law Firm. He was also appointed by the Department of Commerce to the MidAtlantic Fishery Management Council on which he served two terms. He was a member of the New Jersey Governors Marine Fisheries Advisory Council and the Task Force on the New Jersey Seafood Industry. Governor Byrne appointed Bill to the Blue Ribbon Committee on Ocean Incidents which investigated pollution that impacted the New Jersey Beaches. Memorial gathering Thursday, November 5th 11:00 pm – 1:00 pm at Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at Monmouth Reform Temple, 332 Hance Avenue, Tinton Falls.
