Alberta Thomson, 84, of Berkeley Heights fondly known as “Betty” passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, peacefully at her daughter’s home (Cyndi) in Monmouth Beach. In her final moments on earth, she was surrounded by her beloved children, a testament to their deep bond and unwavering devotion to one another. Alberta, born on May 7, 1940, was the eldest of three siblings, Theresa, and Alfonse, born to Antoinette and Samuel Vitale. Additionally, she was blessed with four sisters: Jeanne Ann, Kathleen, Darlene, and Maureen.
Betty married in 1960, shortly after tragedy struck in 1968, and left with five children to raise on her own, whom all meant the world to her. Betty’s love for her five cherished children – Cyndi (Gregory Boles), Albert, Robbie, Karen (Jonathon Keates), and Trevor Thomson – was extraordinary. They were her most precious treasures, and through them, she received the greatest gift of her grandchildren – Stephanie, Lauren, Jonathon, Meghan, Caillin, Evan; two great-granddaughters, Alder, and Peyton; three granddaughters-in-law Bri, Jordan and Alex and one grandson-in-law Kevin. Betty will continue to live on in her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty spent her early years raising her children and working as an administrative secretary for the superintendent of schools in Elizabeth, NJ. As a devoted mother, she set aside Sundays for family gatherings, filling her home with love and laughter. Renowned for her signature cheesecake, apple pound cake, and many more delectable dishes and desserts, her culinary creations became cherished traditions carried on by her children. Betty’s enduring legacy lies in her ability to forge deep connections with everyone she encountered. She loved nothing more than to share stories of her beloved children and grandchildren with cherished friends. Her pride in her family shone through in every conversation.
A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, she was affectionately known as “Aunt Betty” till the end. She was a classy woman, always impeccably dressed, radiating grace and warmth. Above all else, she treasured her relationships with family, friends, and loved ones, holding them dear to her heart.
Her affection overflowed for her children, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. To know her was to love her, as she loved everyone she touched. Betty will never be forgotten.
