Andrea Rosenthal Malek, PHD of Colts Neck passed away Wednesday February 22nd at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch with her family at her side. Andrea was born and raised in Reading, Pa. and was graduated from Exeter Township High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State, her Masters from the University of Pittsburgh and her Doctorate from Fordham University as a Psychologist. Dr. Malek taught special education in New York City and was the special education supervisor for the New York City School's. Dr. Malek was a professor of special education for CUNY and most recently was a professor of special education at Monmouth University where she retired a few years ago. Dr. Malek published several works in professional magazines; she was an esteemed educator and presenter at International forums for special education, including Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Malek's publications were well documented and known throughout the country by special education professionals. Andrea loved traveling the world, her boat in Boca Raton, Fl., where she had a retirement home and she enjoyed the wonderful water view in her back yard. She loved her many friends scattered throughout the world. But her greatest love was her long list of family members and grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do in recent years was doting on her grandchildren, as well are parents. Surviving is her husband, George Malek; Andrea and George's children, Jason and Cara Malek, Ocean Twp., Michelle and Jeff Glazer, Marlboro and Mark and Traci Malek, Marlboro; her grandchildren, Ari, Noah and Alana Malek; Holden and Emmy Glazer; Gabby and Harry Malek; her Mother, Phyllis Rosenthal, Tinton Falls; her siblings, Jan and Marc Greenspan, Ocean Twp., Jay and Rae Rosenthal, Olney, MD; Sister and Brothers-in-Law, Vera and Joe Wiesel, Judy and Dave Zimmer, all of Boca Raton, Fl.; Nieces and Nephews, Drew, Gabrielle, Brian and Jackie Greenspan, Dale and Daniel Levenson and Evan and Shira Rosenthal. Funeral services will be Friday, February 24th, 10:30 AM at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery, Paramus.
