Andrew Tomaine, 87, passed away peacefully at home Friday. Mr. Tomaine is a native of Long Branch and resided in Oceanport for 50 years. Andrew was born on June 27, 1925 in Long Branch, NJ to Josephine and Anthony Tomaine. Andrew was happily married to his beloved wife, Emily Dowd Tomaine of Long Branch for 51 years. A United States Marine during World War II, Mr. Tomaine operated the Third Avenue Sunoco Station, Long Branch, with his brothers Merrick, Phil, and Joseph, and also was proprietor of Plaza Cleaners in Asbury Park. Thereafter, he was employed by the Garden State Parkway. Mr. Tomaine was known for his sense of humor, gentle manner, and big heart. He was an avid gardener who gained great joy from sharing his fruit and vegetables. Andrew enjoyed spending time with his friends on the Long Branch boardwalk, and loved his lifelong Oceanport neighbors. Above all, Andrew cherished spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony & Josephine Tomaine, three brothers, Joseph, Philip, & Merrick; an infant son, Andrew, two nephews, Anthony & Joseph, and a niece, Jeannie and his brother-in-law, Hector. He is survived by his wife, Emily Dowd Tomaine, his sister, Mary Tomaine, Shrewsbury, six daughters and their families: Andrea &Greg Whitesell, NY, Joanne & Dave Valance, NH, Carol Tomaine & Chandler Pease, ME; Bridget Marra, Fair Haven, Kathleen & Richard Bayer, Fair Haven, Jennifer &Harvey Leuin, West Long Branch. Andrew is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Lindsay, Avery, Elaine, Elizabeth, Carly, Matthew, Nicole, Ryan, Kyle, Katelyn, Sean, Alex, Lauren, Brian, Erin, Sarah, Emma, and Griffin. Andrew is also survived by 7 great grandchildren; Oren, Mason, Alaina, Logan, Grace, Liam, and Ariana. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Barbara, Anthony, Phillip, Phyllis, Vivi, Erin, Brian, Bridget Catherine, Noelle, Andre, & Kathleen. Andy will also be missed by sisters-in-law, Vivian, Elsie, Susan & Hedda, as well as brothers-in-law, Jimmy, Bill, and Charlie. A memorial mass in celebration of his life will be Wed. Nov. 21st, 11 am at Star of the Sea RC Church, Corner of Second and Chelsea Avenues, Long Branch.
