Anthony “Squash” F. Tomaine was born in Long Branch, NJ on January 13, 1943, and died on August 19, 2026.

He was a 1961 graduate of Long Branch High School and attended Monmouth College and Glassboro State College and served six years in the Army Reserves.

Anthony, affectionately known as Squash, worked as a bartender in New York City where he enjoyed meeting Frank Sinatra and their conversations of Sinatra’s connection to Squash’s hometown of Long Branch.  He also tended bar at several Jersey Shore establishments for many years.

Anthony’s love of cars led him to a career in sales and leasing and was the proud owner of several local sales, leasing and auto rental businesses.

Anthony served on the Board of Education at Shore Regional High School and was a member of the Long Branch IAMA, founded in part by his father, Joseph Tomaine, in the 1940s, as well as the Italian American Association of Ocean Township.

Most recently, Anthony was a certified state substitute, working in several local school districts and was an associate with Burke and Manna Realtors.

Squash will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of storytelling.  A writer and poet, he wrote many limericks and other poems and stories included in his unpublished books, The Amazing Life of an Insignificant Guy and Tony’s Joke Book.  Squash loved recalling the many memories he had of friends near and far, especially at his Thursday morning breakfast club at Amy’s Omelet House.

Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Mary Bruno Tomaine and Joseph Tomaine, his two sons Anthony Jr. and Joseph, and his loving wife Dolores Schibell Tomaine.  He is survived by many cousins on both sides of his family as well as Dolores’ cousins Richard and Mary Schibell, Sal and Lois Schibell, whom Anthony considered his family, and close friends Lou and Marcia Ciccone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the names of his sons, Anthony F. Tomaine and Joseph A. Tomaine to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept.142, Memphis TN 38105

Visitation will be on Tuesday August 25, 2026, from 4-7pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch.  Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday August 26, 2026, at 10am at Holy Trinity Church, 408 Prospect Street, Long Branch, NJ. Burial to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
