Athalie Patricia Wharton, formerly of Holmdel, New Jersey passed away on September 27th in Queen Creek, Arizona. Born in 1932 to Lt. Anthony T. Willens and Thelma Lorraine (née Adare), her father’s military career took the family across the world during her childhood. Pat graduated from Red Bank High School in 1950.
A dedicated registered nurse, she served her community in the ICU/CCU at Riverview Hospital before retiring as the school nurse at Monmouth Beach Junior High School at the age of 72. Pat was also a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church.
She had a passion for travel, exploring the globe with her late husband, including Europe, the Soviet Union and China to name a few. She cherished her family and will be remembered for her humor, kindness, and caring for others. Her favorite restaurants were Brothers Pizza in Red Bank and Huddy’s in Colts Neck. She had a special love for dogs, especially Golden Retrievers.
Pat is predeceased by her parents, her cherished husband of 69 years, Robert Wharton, and her sister, Florence “Nickie” Johnson. She is survived by her sister Sue Giresi of Belmar, NJ; her children: Debra Wharton-Marcus of Laguna Niguel, CA, Robert Wharton Jr. and his wife Michele of Queen Creek, AZ, and James Wharton and his wife, Kathy of Lumberton, TX; her grandchildren, Ilana, Whitney, Cassandra, Charlotte, Dylan, Samantha, Robert Joseph, Alyssa Paige, Dana Noelle, Heather, Joseph, and Danielle; and her great-grandchildren, Amari Ryu, Ziya Stone, Caiden Jax, Hudson Rhys, Judah Day, Owen Rhett, Brooks Thomas, Remi Alexis, Jordan, Olivia, Theodore Hewitt, Deklan Hewitt, Emerie Eileen, Quinn, Gavin, Nico, and Jordan.
