Carl Francis Simone, 98, of Colts Neck, passed away Friday at Riverview Medical Center.
Carl was born and raised in Brooklyn where he graduated from Boys High School. He then attended Manhattan College for two years before joining the Merchant Marine in 1945. He returned to Manhattan College following his service and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation Carl married his first wife Catherine Wilson shortly before he was drafted into the US Army. After serving his country honorably once again, he returned home and accepted a position with Bell Labs where he would proceed to spend the rest of his highly accomplished career. He went on to earn his master’s in electrical engineering from New York University and relocated the family from Florham Park to their long-time residence in Colts Neck.
Carl’s first wife Catherine passed away after 50 wonderful years of marriage. He eventually married Marilyn Howe with whom he was fortunate to share another 23 exceptional years. Carl enjoyed flying, playing tennis, walking his extensive property, travel, and his time supporting St. Mary’s church where he was both a long-time lector and active member of the parish men’s group.
Carl is predeceased by his first wife Catherine, and his son Matthew. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Peter Simone (Paul Chapin), Paul Simone, Andrew Simone, Jean Dalesio (Keith Collins), Lyn Skehan (Andrew), Joseph Howe (Lara), Thomas Howe (Jodi), Christopher Howe (Michele), his sister Veronica Dawson, his grandchildren Alexis Kolbenschlag (Kevin), Caitlin Simone, Courtney Caffrey (John), Chelsea Sitter (Robert), Kristin Cole (Ryan), Corinne Vikell (Stephen), Jason Howe (Kayla), Grant Howe, Kane Howe, Josie Howe and Leslie Howe, 8 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 30th from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel, NJ 07733. A Funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, July 31st at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 1 Phalanx Rd, Colts Neck. A Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold.
