U.S.Army Veteran – Member VFW Post 5918 Carmen Fortunato, 82, of Holmdel, passed away on March 4th at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. Carmen and his wife Marilyn, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Carmen was a loyal alumnus of Seton Hall University and Kean University where he received a double Masters both in Education and Administration. Carmen was active with the VFW Lodge 5918 in Holmdel, was a member of St. Andrew's group of St. Catharines Parish and an active member of the Holmdel Half Century Club where he established the bocce and table tennis programs. He loved to dance, enjoyed his garden and a good game of chess, but playing golf was his favorite. Carmen will be remembered for his welcoming smile and love of life. Carmen is survived by his wife Marilyn, and his children: Dr. Joe Fortunato and his wife Lisa of Indiana; Dr. James Fortunato and his wife Dr. Justine Wong; daughter Pamela Hollander and her husband Lenny; Carmen Fortunato of Tinton Falls, and Douglas Fortunato of Los Angeles. Carmen is also survived by stepchildren Leonard Schiro and wife Kristen; Joseph Schiro and wife Janine; and Lynn Strom and husband Steve. Carmen leaves a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren Taylor, Ally, AJ, Jenna, Jia, Jasmine, Jake, Stephen, Joseph, Julia, Leonardo, Francesca, and Alexa. Carmen is also survived by his brother and sister in law, Emil and Madeline Fortunato of Neptune; his sister and brother in law Marge and Vic Gerard of Haines City, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children or to Seton Hall University. Visitation will be held at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel on Friday, March 7th from 3P.M. to 7 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday March 8th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Catharine's R.C. Church, 108 – Middletown Road, Holmdel.
