Carmen Victoria Dobson, or ‘Cynthia’ as she was better known to those who loved her, passed away at the age of 73 in her home on May 11, 2021. Cynthia was born and raised in Jamaica and permanently relocated to The United States in 1986, finding her home as a member of the Petschauer family.
Cynthia’s first love was giving love and taking care of others. She enjoyed being around family, caring for the new babies that entered her circle, and was a top chef in the kitchen, cooking intricate meals paying homage to her island roots. Cynthia loved to socialize, and was often the life of the party, as she could always be found front and center of the birthday cake or the dance floor. She enjoyed dancing, all genres of music, was known to have a coke and rum in one (or both) hands, but always made sure others were taken care of first. Cynthia’s vibrant and loving personality was unmatched. As deeply as she loved others, others loved her. She will be remembered for her heart of gold, neon nails, her wardrobe filled with animal prints and costume jewelry, her obsession with QVC and porcelain dolls, and her passion for classic movies and modern soap operas.
Cynthia was a wonderful person who cared for her family and will be deeply missed beyond words. Cynthia is survived by Lori Gabriel Petschauer, Kendall Petschauer, Caitlin Dziedzic and her husband Edward, their two children Teddy and Hank, and matriarch Barbara Gabriel. She is also survived by Kristin Gabriel Kelley and her husband Trevor, their son Kai, Caroline Gabriel Flaxenberg and her husband Ben, Frank Gabriel, Amie Gabriel and Rod Petschauer. Her second family, Maria and Paul Francisco, Dr. Gina Francisco Ashforth and her husband Dr. Hank Ashforth, their son Leo, and Paul Francisco Jr.
A memorial gathering will be held Monday, May 17th from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral service will be offered at 4:00 PM.
