Catherine Ann Menzel
July 17, 1957 - September 9, 2017

Catherine Ann Menzel, “Cathy”, 60, of Freehold passed away at home after a battle with cancer on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Born in Red Bank, raised in Holmdel, she lived in Florida for 10 years before returning home to New Jersey to work on the family farm, Menzel Bros. Farm, in Holmdel, and then in the telecommunications industry.

She was a loving daughter, sister, and fun to be with “Aunt Cat”. Cathy had a lifetime passion of riding and working with horses, watching football games, horse races and NASCAR races. She loved to travel and learned dressage. An animal lover, she had two standard bred poodles, Lacey and Reba, who were her companions through the years.

Cathy was predeceased by her father William Menzel, Jr. her brother Douglas Menzel, her two sisters Margaret Boyton and Lynn Ottesen and her brother-in-law, George Boyton.

She is survived by her mother Mary S. Menzel, her brother, Karl Menzel and his wife, Lisa, and her brother-in-law Daniel Ottesen as well as her cherished nephews Douglas Boyton and his wife Rebecca, Christopher Boyton and his wife Jamie, William Menzel, Keith Menzel, Daniel Ottesen and his wife Melissa, Erik Ottesen and Andrew Ottesen and 6 great nieces and nephews as well as many wonderful, caring friends including Magnus and Elvis.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12th 2:00 – 6:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Cathy to SPUR, Special People United to Ride, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738. Cathy was a great friend and coworker with the Miami international Airport Fire Department when she lived in Miami. We spent many a day working out together in the gym so that I could become a firefighter. She had every confidence in me that I would make a good firefighter . This was in a time when there were very few women in this line of work. She missed her home so much and returned and I continued on and became a firefighter. I will always remember her laughter and positive attitude. We always stayed in contact however we're not able to visit each other. My heart aches but I know she will be riding her horse and laughing and looking down on us. Right now she is up there keeping us safe from this awful Hurricane Irmm Loving her always.
