Clifford Edward Yaschur, 84, of Holmdel, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Clifford was born on July 4, 1940, raised in Wallington, N.J., and later moved to Carlstadt, N.J., with his parents and sister. He graduated from East Rutherford High School in 1957 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1963.
He then joined the United States Navy, went through Officer Candidate School and served as a surface warfare officer aboard the destroyer, the U.S.S. John W. Thomason, during the Vietnam War. He proudly served his country for four years active duty, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, then joined the Naval reserves and subsequently the NJ Naval Militia.
While in the Navy, he married Marjorie Joan Kerr in 1966, and they settled in Holmdel to raise their family. While working, Clifford attended Rutgers University at night and earned an MBA. Clifford worked in New York City for most of his career, most recently as an auditor for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He retired in 2005. His office was on the 62nd floor of the World Trade Center, and following 9-11, his unit in the N.J. Naval Militia was enacted to patrol the Hudson River by boat.
Clifford was a talented guitar player and songwriter. He especially liked country western music. An avid history buff, he focused primarily on American history from the Civil War through World War II and European history. Clifford had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. He also collected Lionel trains. He and his family made many memories during their annual summer vacations in Cape Cod.
Above all, Clifford was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Family was the most important thing to him. He was generous and loyal to everyone he held dear.
Clifford is predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Kerr) Yaschur; his father, Edward Yaschur; his mother, Margaretta (Fesko) Yaschur, and his sister, Georgiana Kalterakus.
Clifford is survived by his son, Jefferey Yaschur, and his wife Elva; his daughter, Carolyn Haslinger, and her husband, Brian; and his beloved grandchildren, Marjorie Yaschur, Marilyn Yaschur, Andrew Haslinger and Emily Haslinger.
