Daniel “Dan” Perlsweig, at the age of 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27th while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 21 , 1926 in West Philadelphia to the late Mary Perlsweig (nee Gaber) and James Perlsweig.

Dan had a love for horses and began cleaning stalls for the Philadelphia Mounted Police as a young man. He then became an avid fox hunter in Chester County, Pa., before serving his country in World War II. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. Following his service he became a jockey and raced for 10 years. Dan then became a thoroughbred horse trainer and started his company, Dandy Dan Racing Stables. He traveled the East Coast training horses at various tracks including Monmouth Park, Atlantic City, Garden State, Saratoga,and Gulfstream, covering a 50 year span.

Altruistic in his nature Dan founded Backstretch Appreciation Day in the early 90's, an organization that focuses on giving back to those who work tirelessly to care for horses and ensure their continued success.

Dan loved going on cruises all over the world, making friendships and dancing on their cruise decks. He was also a member of the USS Tucson brothers.

Dan went on to marry the late Patricia “Patsy” McCarthy Perlsweig (1927-2002) on October 8, 1951.

Dan will be forever remembered by his daughter, Judy Stomel (Mark), his son, Mark Perlsweig (Carolyn) , his three beloved grandchildren, Daniel, Zach (Allison) and Morgan, his companion, Cathy, and his many, many friends. Dan will be dearly missed.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 3 rd 2018 at 11:30am until the service at 1:30 pm at Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home 10 Morrell St. Long Branch.
