Dirk E. Lyman, 79 of West Long Branch and Wildwood Crest died at his home on Friday, April 12th.
He was born in New York City, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Virginia Tech. Dirk had a long career working for the United States Government at Fort Monmouth.
He enjoyed splitting his time between his homes to avoid tourists and seasonal traffic. Dirk loved driving manual transmission cars, and kept his two vanity plates Ivanhoe and Ben Hur, named for his love of classic films. He enjoyed Broadway Shows and collected the Playbills from shows he saw, including repeats of Sunset Boulevard, Les Misérables, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was a fan of his alma mater’s football team the Hokies, chocolate eclairs, and classic Coca Colas. Dirk enjoyed traveling especially in his younger years, including trips to the Netherlands, Britain, Greece, and California.
Surviving Dirk are his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Norma Lyman of Roselle Park; his niece Christine and her fiancé James of Cranford; and his nephew Kevin and his fiancée Catherine of Hillsborough.
Funeral services 1:00 PM at Seaside Cemetery, 559 Rte.9 N, Marmora, NJ on Friday April 19th.
