Edith Ruess, 93, of Jackson, passed away Friday surrounded by her family.
Edith was born in Red Bank and raised in Lincroft. She graduated from Red Bank High School and would go on be the executive secretary to the director at Middletown Twp. Library for 25 years. She married her first husband Arbon Hughes who was in the service so they moved around a lot before settling in Middletown. They would have 5 children together. Arbon would pass in 1967.
Years later Edith would marry Leonard Ruess. She enjoyed needle point, crocheting, and baking.
Edith is predeceased by her husbands, Arbon Hughes and Leonard Ruess; and her children Gail Scanlon and Gary Hughes.
Edith is survived by her children: Greg Hughes and his wife Ellyn, Gwen Hughes, Kathryn Hughes, Linda Harvey and her husband Neal, Christine Ruess and her partner, Mark Mihaly, her daughter-in-law Donna Hughes, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30th from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A service will be held Wednesday, May 31st at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery, Middletown.
