Edward J. Luettchau, 87, of Holladay, TN, died on Tuesday, August 8 in New Jersey where he summered.
Edward was born in Red Bank in 1936 to the late Sigrid(Hamilton)and Edward John Luettchau, Sr. He was raised in Union Beach and graduated from Keyport High School class of 1954. Edward then went on to serve his country honorably in the US Navy, serving as a weatherman after graduating first in his class in Lakehurst Naval Base.
Edward enjoyed woodworking and antiquing with his life-long companion Janice. They loved a traveling adventure, taking the back roads of America together. He was the kind of guy who would ask the locals where they would go for a great meal, then heed their suggestion. Edward, (Eddie) was an outdoorsman who loved walking in the woods and riding on his quad. In earlier years as a talented artist, he enjoyed sketching old barns, waterwheels, and historic houses in the Monmouth County region. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting with family and his trusty beagle Stubby, catching game for the annual Luettchau family hasenpfeffer get-together. He also enjoyed umpiring little league baseball for HYAA at its inception.
Eddie was predeceased by his brother Norman Luettchau.
Surviving are his companion of over 30 years Janice McLaughlin, his daughters Deborah Wiberg and her partner John Payton of Hazlet, Laneta Owens and her husband David of Jackson, his brothers Charles, Richard, and Donald Luettchau, and their families. He had five beautiful grandchildren Ted, Kyle, Gina, David, and Christopher, as well as four great-grandchildren Henry, Judy, Jackson, and Jonathan. He thought the world of his step-daughters Cyndi Ramsey and Joy Serbeck and their respective families as well. His very close friends from Tennessee, J.W. and Patty King, Bridget, and Becky will always be remembered for the kindness they lavished upon Ed & his Janice, spending holidays, birthdays and “card nights” together.
All services will be private.
With a grateful heart, the family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Eddie’s name to a Veterans’ Non-profit Organization of the giver’s choice.
