Ewald Anderl

September 29, 1955 - June 19, 2017

Ewald Anderl, 61 of Middletown, passed away at this home on Monday, June 19th.

Ewald was born in Berndorf, Austria before moving with his family to Monmouth County.
He graduated with a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers College of Engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer at Bell Labs in Holmdel for twenty years.

Ewald was always cheerful and had a self-proclaimed “bounce” about him. He was an avid bridge player with his beloved wife Mary Anne and their friends. He also had a love for science fiction novels and films.

Ewald is predeceased by his mother, Gisela Anderl and his brother, Georg Anderl.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne Anderl; his son, William Anderl; his father, Josef Anderl; his sister Ursula Ahern and her husband Paul; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Anderl; and nephews Michael, Patrick, David, Matthew, Christopher and niece Sarah.

I'm saddened to learn of Ewald's passing. My condolences to Ewald's family. Like Yusuf and Kannan who have also posted tributes, I worked with Ewald on the Intuit Audix project. Ewald was passionate about everything he worked on and he worked with fervor. Ewald was a fountain of innovation and he was rarely deterred once he set his sights on a goal. I enjoyed working as a member of Ewald's team and remember those days fondly.

Ewald hired me straight from grad school and shaped all my expectations for future professional life. He was the most inspirational, visionary and yet humble leader I have ever encountered. This is a profound loss and I am still in shock. My sincere condolences and may his soul Rest In Peace. I will always remember him with a twinkle in his eye.

I am really shocked to hear this news. Ewald hired me in 1992 as a contractor, at AT&T, to work on Intuity Audix. He was an excellent manager who preferred the hands-off approach to management. He was always brimming with ideas on how to improve the product and how to come up with new products. The Internet was still in it's infancy during those days, but Ewald was already dreaming up ways in which it could be leveraged for messaging applications. With his always present coffee cup in hand, he could be heard stomping through the corridors of the AT&T Lincroft building and later Holmdel. I lost touch with him after 2001, but I will always remember him as someone who went out of his way to be generous to those who worked for him. - Yusuf Dadani
