Fred Fukong Chu, 90, of Lincroft, died on Monday, May 11.
Fred was born and raised in Shanghai, China to the late Zay Cheng Chang Chu and Dr. Ling Sun Chu. He was a graduate of National Taiwan Ocean University. Fred worked his way up to Captain before moving on to his career in shipbuilding. He was the VP of maritime engineering of a few companies and over saw many ships being built, moving his family around the world from Japan, Yugoslavia, and Germany. He lived in New York and then New Jersey, where he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He loved ballroom dancing with his wife of over 55 years, skiing, and helping others. His skill in learning made him an amazing teacher to others looking for guidance, especially when it came to skiing, and anything mechanical. Fred also enjoyed listening to music and singing karaoke.
He is predeceased by his parents, and three siblings Virginia Shen, Robert S.K. Chu, and Ven Wei Chang.
Fred is survived by his wife, Juliet Chu, three children Jeffrey and his wife Stephanie Chu of Freehold, Christopher and his wife Jennifer Chu of Freehold, and Emily and her husband Olger Mora of Middletown, two siblings Wendy Tang and William “H.K” Chu, and six grandchildren Christopher, Jayson, Dominic, Leo, Mia, and Mila.
A funeral home service will be offered on Monday, May 18 at 11am at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
