Joe Ting left a message on June 9, 2006:
Mr. Lucas was probably the biggest influence to me during my High School years. Although I never had the opportunity to fully express it to him, he has truly inspired me to become the person I am today. "Because nice matters." These few words embody everything that I life for and everything that I strive to achieve. His constant aura of positivity greatly influenced my decision to enter the healthcare industry, so that I may also be able to serve, inspire, and influence others the same way that he did for me. I have never met a more selfless person than he, and I can only hope to become a fraction of the great person that he was. Although he is no longer with us, his teachings and influences will live on forever in those that were lucky enough to spend even a moment with this great leader. I know he is up above looking and caring after each and every one of us, and his legacy will live on forever in my heart, and in the heart of all those he led and inspired. Joseph Ting HHS Class of 2000 United States Navy

Kuangwei Hwang left a message on May 11, 2006:
It was unbelievable to hear the news of his passing. Mr. Lucas was truly a great man, the best principal Holmdel High School has ever seen. None ever came close to him after the administrative changes. "Because nice matters" was his motto, it changed HHS tremendously when it was being torn by hatred, violence, and racial discrimination. He was a true friend to his students, and it made my high school years there a great experience (1997~2001). It was a great loss to the school when he was forced to leave, and it is a great loss now to us all in the community now that he is gone. My highest regards and salute to a great leader. Kuangwei Hwang Class of 2001

Patty and family, I'm not sure if we ever met at one of Fred's reunions, but wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. He was always one of my most favorite people in high school, and was probably one of the sweetest, most kind men I have ever known. He always has a smile on his radiant face, and ALWAYS cared about others...I knew that he would be successful and loved, but didn't know that he only had 60 years with us all....Thank you for taking such good care of him while he was here. I know that he will be sadly missed by you all. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Much love and peace. Jan
