Gracinda Amador Rebimbas, 93 of Newark passed away at home Tuesday August 30th with her family by her side. Gracinda was born in Newark and moved to Portugal at the age of three. She returned to Newark at the age of 19, where she remained until her passing. As the matriarch of the family, Gracinda’s siblings followed her to the United States. She enjoyed being with her family and helping them in any way. Gracinda was extremely generous and very religious. She read the Bible daily and had scripture readings throughout her house. Gracinda was predeceased by her husband, Joao Rebimbas in 1978 and son-in-law, Arthur Merces in 2003. Surviving are her daughters & son-in-law, Maria & Gary Taylor, and Cecelia Merces, her brothers Manuel, Agostinho and Antonio Amador, her grandchildren Michael & Candice Couto, Daniel & Jennifer Couto, David & Hayley Merces and Paul & Erica Merces and great granddaughters Casey & Emma Merces and Kyla Couto. Mass of Christian Burial Friday September 2nd 10:00 am at Star of the Sea Church, 101 Chelsea Avenue, Long Branch. Entombment Holmdel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gracinda’s memory to Ronald McDonald House, 131 Bath Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
