Gregory Sperling, 46, of Long Branch passed away Thursday August 26th surrounded by his family at the St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Mr. Sperling was a plumber and pipefitter for Local #9 Plumbers and Pipefitters, Englishtown. He was a 1982 graduate of Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch, where he lettered in Wrestling. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins along with his son and cheered on his Yankees during baseball season. A day at the beach was this of heaven for him. He was raised in Oceanport, living there for 28 years before moving to Long Branch in 1992. Surviving is his loving children, Luke and Tyler Sperling; his Mom and Dad, Monica and George Sperling; his sister, Mary Sipler; two brothers and their wives, Jeff and Lori Sperling, Scott and Gina-Marie Sperling three nephews, Garrett, Chris and Jordan; four nieces, Samantha, Hailey, Olivia and Natalie who all loved their Uncle Greg; his special friend Carrie Lasko, who he loved to the end; and his Faithful bulldog, Muggsy. Visitation will be Monday August 30th, 5pm to 9 pm at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday August 31st 10:00 AM, at the Church of the Precious Blood, Riverdale Ave., Monmouth Beach. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care, Monmouth Medical Center, 300 2nd Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740. My fondest memories of Greg are from Maple Place School and include attending professional wrestling matches in Asbury Park and having boxing matches in his basement. Such a fun kid and to echo what everyone else is saying he was always smiling and forever friendly. I am the paralegal for Albert Rescinio, who loved Greg dearly. I loved him too. There has never one single occasion, since my son was diagnosed with MS in 2005, when he did not ask me how my son was doing. There is a part of each of us that dies every time we lose a friend or family member.
