Hazel Mildred Traylor, a beloved daughter and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023 at the age of ninety-nine. Born on March 7, 1924, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Hazel touched the lives of many through her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
Hazel’s journey began in humble beginnings, growing up in a loving home with her parents, Frank and Ethel Salus. Hazel graduated Metuchen High School in June 1942. In November 1942, she married the love of her life, Arthur E. Wickberg. They shared sixteen wonderful years together. During that time, she was employed by New Jersey Bell and later worked for Steinbach Company. Several years after remarrying, she relocated to Nevada, and was employed by the City of Las Vegas for many years until her retirement.
Hazel’s most cherished role was that of a mother. She leaves behind a profound legacy through her children: Pamela Lynch, Arthur Wickberg, Bruce Wickberg, and Kimberly Nash, as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Hazel’s enduring love and support were constants throughout their lives, providing them with a strong foundation of love and guidance. She shared her joy and infectious laughter fostering treasured memories that will be forever cherished.
Hazel will be remembered for her compassionate nature, her endearing charm, and her immense love for her family and friends. She loved playing the piano and the organ, and for a time, was the organist for her church. Hazel enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, and baking her favorite rum cake. She had an innate ability to find joy in the simplest of moments and brought warmth to every room she entered. Her dedication to her loved ones was immeasurable, and her absence will be deeply felt by all of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Hazel Mildred Traylor may have left this earthly realm, but she will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her spirit, grace, and unwavering love will be cherished and remembered for generations to come.
