Hsiou-Cheng Lin(林彭秀貞), 69, of Holmdel, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 20.

 

Hsiou-Cheng(秀貞) was born in 1954 to the late Mi Chen (陳米) and Yung-Ching Peng(彭永清) in the island of Peng-Hu(澎湖) of Taiwan.

 

She was raised in Chiayi(嘉義) and Zhongli(中壢) of Taiwan, and attended Tatung Institute of Commerce and Technology (大同技術學院) in Chiayi(嘉義), Taiwan. Hsiou-Cheng(秀貞) met the love of her life Yih-Kang(毅剛), married in 1977, and moved to Kansas as he attended the University of Kansas. They later moved to Atlanta, GA, Dallas, Texas, Los Angeles, CA, and finally settled in Holmdel, NJ in 1988.

 

Hsiou-Cheng(秀貞) loved gardening and had an artistic mind that she expressed through pottery, ceramics and painting. She also enjoyed traveling.  Hsiou-Cheng(秀貞)was kind, humble, and made sure her family was always taken care of in every way. She spent a lot of time volunteering with the Tzuchi Foundation(慈濟基金會) and was known there for her generous way and big heart.

 

She is predeceased by her parents Mi Chen (陳米) and Yung-Ching Peng(彭永清).

 

Surviving is her beloved husband Yih-Kang Maurice Lin(林毅剛), her daughter, Dorothy Lin (林樹欣), and her four siblings who reside in Taiwan.

 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 10 am – 12pm with a service during visitation, at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Cremation will be private.

 

In lieu of traditional remembrances, the family of Hsiou-Cheng(秀貞) asks with gratitude to please consider dedicating a donation in her name to the Tzuchi Foundation(慈濟基金會) (www.tzuchi.us/offices/nj). Please check the “Dedication” box and “in memory of” to write Hsiou-Cheng Lin.

Time flied fast since I knew 秀貞 for 30 years. During the time we shared many things together, like families, cooking, flowers, clothes and politics. Sometimes when I visited her she cooked the gourmet food for me. The egg roll and Lion Head Meatballs 獅子頭 were very tasty. 秀貞 was a generous, compassionate and thoughtful woman. No words for me can express how sorry I am for loss of her. Yi-Kang & Dorothy, Yen-Chou and I give our deepest sympathy to you. Take care of yourselves for I know that 秀貞 would not rest if she knows that you are not well.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I met Hsiou-Cheng when I was a kid because both families had known each other. When they lived in Zhongli, I often visited them. When she was a teenager, they moved to Chiayi. Since then we seldom talked. Later, we both came to U.S. We had several chances seen each other. In recent years, we did talk on the phone. Each time at the end of conversion we always blessed each other and asked to take care oneself. This time, she failed her promise. In memory, Hsiou-Cheng was a kind and generous person. I know that she is now in heaven. No pain. No tube. No medicine. Yih-Kang & Dorothy, please know that you are not alone and that my thoughts and sympathies are with you during this time of grief. May the memories you have of your loved one bring you comfort and peace, and may you find strength in the love and support of those around you. If there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask.
