Ilan Z. Halpern, MD, 90, died on Thursday, April 16.
Ilan was born and raised in Haifa, Israel in 1935 to the late Nessia and Frederick Hans Halpern. He moved to America for college and medical school and went on to receive his MD. Ilan was a general surgeon and partner in the Sayreville Medical Group.
Ilan was always very active and enjoyed swimming and jogging, but everyone knew that his true passion was tennis. He played tennis with anyone who was interested, young or old, giving everyone a fun challenge.
He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Esther, affectionately called Lilou.
Ilan is survived by his loving wife Maxine Halpern, his children Ari Halpern of Los Angeles, CA, and Daniella and her husband Cieran Murphy of Marlboro, and two grandchildren Teagan and Aidan.
A Funeral Home Service will be offered on Sunday, April 19 from 1pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Burial will follow at Freehold Hebrew Cemetery, 164 Route 33, Freehold.
