James (Jim) Naughton passed away on October 25, 2021. He was the youngest of four children born to very proud, Irish-Catholic immigrants in Brooklyn, New York on April 18, 1942. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School and graduated from St. Leonard’s High School. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army through the times of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Jim whole-heartedly embraced his life as a true socializer, always having a good time. As a young man he held several positions on Wall Street and entertained many as a local bartender throughout his life. As a sports enthusiast, Jim enjoyed the financial rewards of each of his winning outcomes. It was not unusual to find Jim seated by a one-armed bandit at a local casino or watching the ponies run at his favorite track. His personality was as booming as his unforgettable sneeze that would clear a room whenever anyone encountered it. Jim was notorious for his sense of humor and being a prankster that has left all who knew him a legacy of so many laughs and stories to share in his memory. His huge personality and booming laugh helped him connect with so many friends over his 79 years. Through the years Jim has called several places home – beginning with Brooklyn, NY with stops in San Francisco, CA, Pocono, PA, Sun City, AZ and most recently Manchester, NJ.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Naughton and his brother John. He is survived by his sister Mary Naughton and brother, Thomas Naughton and his wife Nora. One of Jim’s most endearing roles was that of being “fun Uncle Jimmy” to multiple generations of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends that meant more to him than words can describe.
Since Jim was a big kid at heart, in lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. https://www.jdrf.org/ Visitation for Jim will be held Thursday October 28th from 3-7pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd, Holmdel. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 29st at 9:15am at the Church of St. Catharine, 108 Middletown Rd, Holmdel.
