To the Guilbert family: I must say I was heart-wrenched to learn about Dean Guilbert's passing, which took a while as I no longer live in the tri-state area. If it had not been for your wonderful husband/father, my father might never have let his only child (the Dean being one as well) attend SJU 2 hrs away from my home. He was so reassuring of the care I would receive in my new residence life status and kept his promise many times over as I later became part of the student life family. His genuine kindness and motivation to his students leave a strong legacy in many lives. I'm sorry for your loss and share in your grief. Mrs. Guilbert, please email me (AliciaJennings@lycos.com) as I have a wonderful student life photo taken in 2001 that I would like to forward to you and you family that also includes Rita Mary. Sorrowfully,
To Mary Beth and Family..My deepest sympathy, you are all in my prayers.
Dean James Guilbert was one of the most influential men that I have met while in St. John's University in Staten Island. He knew what it was like to be sensitive and handle situations of sensitive matter. He will be greatly missed.
To the Guilbert Family, I worked with Jim Guilbert at SJVHS. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Jim touched so many lives and so I would like to thank God for the opportinuty he gave me to meet Jim. May your memories of him be your comfort & your strength prevail to help you all through this difficult time.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
So sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. No words can take away your emotional pain, God is with you, many people praying for you and your children. God Bless you and your family.
Dear Marybeth, Megan and Jimbo and all the Guilbert and O'Toole Families, Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you.
Upon hearing of Jim's passing, I thought of the old movie "Stand by Me", where time has separated friends who were very, very close in the moment. Jimmy was a very good buddy during my Prep years, and his good nature and quick wit made him a great verbal sparring partner and kept me smiling during good and bad times. I am heartened by the tributes from those who knew him these later years, for his values of education, respect, family and fun have obviously stayed as part of his core throughout. We had seen each other very few times over these years, but his smile was broad and welcoming whenever we did. To all who know Jim, I share your loss; to his family, my heartfelt condolences, along with the assurance that your memories will be a source of loving comfort over time. So long Jim.
Our Father/Daughter dances will never be the same. Thanks for all the fond memories of time spent together: Blue Claws game, sleepovers w/Megan your unique way to make us laugh. Rest in Peace Luis ,Juanita and Lauren,Priscilla & Tiffany
Dean Guilbert was a huge part of my college career at SJU. He was warm, welcoming, kind, genuine, and considerate. He knew his students on a first name basis and cared for our interests. He was a role model for those of us who would eventually continue in the field of education. I'm lucky to have had the experience of his leadership. On behalf of many members of the SJU class of 2005, our deepest sympathy.
Jim and I were not particularly close but I remember he ALWAYS had a quick smile and a warm handshake for everyone. I assumed he would go into politics but helping form young minds was a much better use of his talent. Tom Murtha SPP '76
Marybeth, Megan and Jimbo, Our thoughts and prayers are with the three of you and your extended family at this difficult time. Our door is always open for you when you need us. May the kindness and generosity that you and Jim have shown others over the years be returned at this time by all who have known you. My fondest memory of Jim is his cooking and how he was always trying to feed us....Katie, who benefited the most, is especially grateful. Take good care of each other!! Love, Jim, Lynda, Katie & Lindsey
My prayers are with all of you during this time. I have fond memories of Jim when he was here at St John Vianney.

My prayers are with his wife and children. Your husband and your father was a very very special man! Dean Guilbert was my supervisor at SJU....he was such an inspiration to me....he was a kind, warm, wonderful, family-oriented person...I was so blessed to have had the opportunity to work in his office. His guidance is the reason why I was sooo successful in college and beyond...I often think about how bright his smile was and how it lit up the office at SJU....He was such a father figure to me ...always believing in my ability to tackle any project...the world will never be as bright without him!
