James R. Guilbert, 51 of Morganville, NJ died Saturday January 2, 2010 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He spent his entire career as an educator serving as a teacher, and adjunct professor at various schools in New York and New Jersey, including many years as Dean of Student Life at St. John’s University, Staten Island Campus. Jim was born in Jersey City, graduated from St. Peter’s Prep, Jersey City, Seton Hall University and was awarded a Masters Degree in Education from Columbia University. Jim was an avid NY Mets and Giants fan who will be remembered by his friends and family as a generous man with a quick wit who enjoyed time spent with family and friends Mr. Guilbert was predeceased by his father James Guilbert. Surviving are his wife, Mary Beth Guilbert (nee O’Toole), son, James Guilbert, daughter, Megan Guilbert, mother, Veronica Guilbert, uncle, Gene Halligan, aunt, Kathleen Dallas, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. To the Guilbert family: I must say I was heart-wrenched to learn about Dean Guilbert's passing, which took a while as I no longer live in the tri-state area. If it had not been for your wonderful husband/father, my father might never have let his only child (the Dean being one as well) attend SJU 2 hrs away from my home. He was so reassuring of the care I would receive in my new residence life status and kept his promise many times over as I later became part of the student life family. Upon hearing of Jim's passing, I thought of the old movie "Stand by Me", where time has separated friends who were very, very close in the moment. Jimmy was a very good buddy during my Prep years, and his good nature and quick wit made him a great verbal sparring partner and kept me smiling during good and bad times.
