Jean Claudia Becker, 80, of Freehold, died on Sunday, March 16.

Jean was born and raised in Lago Heights, Aruba to the late Violet and Elsworth Hassell. After high school, Jean’s family moved to Queens, NY. She raised her family in Long Island, and eventually moved to Freehold to be with her family. Jean worked as a nurse aid, a flight attendant, and finally a bookkeeper for Mottahedeh in Cranbury.

Jean enjoyed the beach, walking, cooking, and most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cats.

She is predeceased by her parents, her son Roland Becker, and her brother, Everett Hassell.

Jean is survived by son Dirk Becker of Pennellville, NY, daughter Erika and her husband Jay Applegate of Freehold, siblings Merril Hassell and Judy Vioreanu, grandchildren Luis, Tyler, Gabriel, and Gracie, fellow grandparent Wayne Applegate, and her four legged cat friends Spencer, Luna, and Snugglepuss.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21 from 5pm – 8pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral home service will be offered on Saturday, March 22 at 11am at Holmdel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Gabriel Cemetery, Marlboro.
